The Good Brothers are a professional wrestling tag team made up of Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows. They are best known for their work in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and in the United States for Ring of Honor (ROH), Impact Wrestling (Impact), All Elite Wrestling (AEW), WWE and various promotions on the independent circuit.

Anderson and Gallows were first put together by NJPW in 2013, working as a tag team within the larger Bullet Club stable. Over the next three years, the two won the IWGP Tag Team Championship three times, while also winning the 2013 World Tag League. In February 2016, the two left NJPW to sign with WWE. During these years, they have used the team name Gallows and Anderson for most of their partnership.

In 2020, the two were released from WWE as part of budget cuts relating to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and joined Impact Wrestling, upon which the once-informal moniker of "The Good Brothers" became their official team name. After five years, the duo made their return at NJPW's New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America brand, before briefly rejoining Bullet Club in February 2022, for eight months. Between NJPW, WWE, and Impact, they have held seven world tag team championships overall.

History[]

New Japan Pro Wrestling (2013–2016)[]

On November 11, 2013, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) announced the participating teams in the 2013 World Tag League. Included was a team representing the Bullet Club stable, made up of founding member Karl Anderson and the debuting Doc Gallows.[1] Anderson had been working for NJPW regularly since 2008,[2] while Gallows, a former WWE performer, had most recently worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).[3] The two ended up winning their block with a record of four wins and two losses,[4] and on December 8, first defeated Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma in the semifinals and then Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima in the finals to win the tournament.[5] This led to a match on January 4, 2014, at Wrestle Kingdom 8 in Tokyo Dome, where they defeated K.E.S. (Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer) to win the IWGP Tag Team Championship.[6] Anderson and Gallows ended up holding the title for a full year, successfully defending it six times.[7] In December 2014, the two made it to the finals of their second consecutive World Tag League, but were defeated there by Hirooki Goto and Katsuyori Shibata,.[8] who then went on to defeat them for IWGP Tag Team Championship on January 4, 2015, at Wrestle Kingdom 9 in Tokyo Dome.[9]

On February 11 at The New Beginning in Osaka, Anderson and Gallows defeated Goto and Shibata in a rematch to regain the IWGP Tag Team Championship.[10] Their second reign ended on April 5 at Invasion Attack 2015, where they were defeated by The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Michael Bennett) in their first defense.[7][11] Anderson and Gallows won the title for a third time on July 5 at Dominion 7.5 in Osaka-jo Hall by defeating The Kingdom in a rematch.[12] After a six-month reign that saw Anderson and Gallows successfully defend the title once,[7] they lost the title to 2015 World Tag League winners Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma on January 4, 2016, at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in Tokyo Dome.[13]

In the midst of rumors they were leaving NJPW,[14][15] Anderson and Gallows received a rematch for the IWGP Tag Team Championship, but were again defeated by Makabe and Honma on February 14 at The New Beginning in Niigata.[16] Anderson and Gallows wrestled their final NJPW match on February 20 at Honor Rising: Japan 2016, where they teamed with their Bullet Club stablemates Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga in an eight-man tag team match, where they were defeated by Bobby Fish, Hirooki Goto, Katsuyori Shibata and Kyle O'Reilly.[17][18]

Return to New Japan (2021–2023)[]

On June 19, it was announced that Anderson and Gallows, dubbed as "The Good Brothers", would their return to the promotion after five years in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America brand at Strong's Tag Team Turbulence Tournament. A day later, it was announced that they were going to take part of NJPW's return event Resurgence. After Jon Moxley defended the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Yuji Nagata, Karl Anderson cut a promo challenging Moxley for match for his title in which Moxley later accepted the challenge with their match taking place on All Elite Wrestling's Fyter Fest television special. On July 14, 2021 at Fyter Fest, Anderson unsuccessfully challenged Moxley for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. From July 16 until July 30, Anderson and Gallows took part in the Tag Team Turbulence, where they won after defeating Violence Unlimited (Brody King and Chris Dickinson). Following the match, Jon Moxley appeared in a pre-taped video challenging them to a match, while also promising to bring a surprise partner to his team. On August 1, The Good Brothers accepted Moxley's challenge. The following day, NJPW made the match official. On August 14, at Resurgence, The Good Brothers defeated Moxley and Yuji Nagata. After the match, Anderson and Gallows were confronted by the Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) before Anderson and Gallows left the arena.

On the January 27, 2022 episode of Impact!, Anderson and Gallows were challenged by the Guerrillas of Destiny to a title match for the Impact World Tag Team Championship. Afterwards, Bullet Club began feuding with Violent By Design, after The Good Brothers seeked their assistance to deal with Bullet Club. On February 19 at No Surrender, The Good Brothers rejoined Bullet Club, when Bullet Club's leader Jay White turned on the Guerrillas of Destiny, costing them their title shot. On May 1 at Wrestling Dontaku, Anderson and Gallows made their return to NJPW after six years, attacking Jado and Tama Tonga, before Anderson challenged Tonga to a match for the NEVER Openweight Championship. On June 12 at Dominion 6.12 in Osaka-jo Hall, Anderson defeated Tonga to win the NEVER Openweight Championship, winning his first singles title in NJPW. On October 10, it was reported by Pro Wrestling Inisder, that Anderson and Gallows were believed to be heading back to WWE, which was confirmed later that day, following their appearance on the episode of WWE Raw. On October 20, Anderson posted a video on his Twitter page, indicating that he would not be making his advertised commitment, with his tag team partner Doc Gallows not approving his appearance. Despite comments from Gallows, Anderson's expressed his approval to defend the title, but due to both featuring for a WWE event in Saudi Arabia on November 5, Anderson was unable to attend the title match, in direct conflict with Anderson’s prior commitment. Over the following days, NJPW attempted to negotiate with Anderson, for a title defense, leading on October 26, NJPW announcing should Anderson decide to renege on his scheduled title match, he would be forced to vacate the NEVER Openweight Championship and return the title belt to NJPW immediately. This led to on December 14, Anderson successfully defending the title against Hikuleo. On January 4, 2023, at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Tokyo Dome, Anderson lost the NEVER Openweight Championship back to Tama Tonga, marking his last appearance for the promotion.
