New Years Unit War 6 Man Tag Team Tournament was a single-elimination trios tournament held in Dragon Gate to determine the strongest team in the promotion for the year. The tournament was held in one show.

On January 6, 2016 Dragon Gate announced a trios tournament named New Years Unit War 6 Man Tag Team Tournament one night trios tournament on January 18 and the first round will be contested under 2 count rules and the rest of the rounds will be normal 3 count rules. It was also announced the stables that will be part of the tournament. The stables that will be part of the tournament are Over Generation, VerserK, Jimmyz, Tribe Vanguard and some Unaffiliated teams. It will be two teams from VerserK, one from Over Generation, one from Jimmyz and one from Tribe Vanguard, and it will also have three Unaffiliated teams. Later Kaito Ishida was replaced by Punch Tominaga.
